Job Description – Product Safety Engineer


Reporting to: Product Safety Manager

Location: Commutable to London + flexible home working

Contract – full time permanent

Renumeration: competitive package, circa £45k


Summary
Be part of a specialised team responsible for electrical product investigations, working closely with our campaigns team and external partners to help protect consumers from unsafe electrical products. You will have an enquiring mind and be able to analyse technical data to help build the evidence base for effecting change to standards and/or legislation. Above all you must be able to work effectively on your own or in a team environment, working across teams in Electrical Safety First and with stakeholders whether manufacturers, retailers, government officials, test laboratories and other safety professionals.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Conducting product safety investigations and evaluations
  • Creating and reviewing product risk assessments
  • Undertaking research projects and reporting on findings
  • Monitoring relevant UK/EU/IEC product standards and supporting the Charity’s activity on standards development
  • Responding to consumer enquiries
  • Working closely with our Campaigns team to provide technical support and guidance
  • Liaising with key stakeholders and partners on product safety matters
  • Attending meetings to support and promote the objectives of the Charity
  • Representing the technical team at events across the UK
  • Producing and delivering presentations and technical reports

 

Person Specification – You will need:

  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience in electrical product safety requirements
  • A good understanding of basic electrotechnical principles,
  • A good working knowledge of UK electrical product safety legislation, regulations and standards
  • Relevant technical qualifications or equivalent experience
  • To be proficient in use of IT systems and software
  • To be flexible and willing to travel at short notice to various locations within the UK
  • To be a UK citizen
