There are some exemptions around long leases or where a grant for right of occupancy over 7 years is in place. However, these exemptions are very specific and not common. You can find more information here.

Generally, the electrical installation in privately rented properties now needs to be inspected on a five yearly basis. There is no legislation yet for socially rented housing although most providers do test installations every five years in order to confirm that their properties are electrically safe.
