Whenever you have electrical work carried out in your home, make sure that the electrician that you are using is qualified to carry out that work.
If the electrician that you used is a member of a government-approved scheme then you can contact them for help. However, it sounds as if the tradesperson you used is unregistered, so the best thing to do is go in this case is go to Citizens Advice for help. Ultimately it is the responsibility of the homeowner to make sure that electrical work meets the Building Regulations (Part P).
A registered electrician will be able to inspect the work that has been carried out. You can find one local to you here.
