In my rental, the socket is so close to the floor that you can't use plugs with wires coming out the bottom - is this safe?

Part M of the Building Regulations requires that sockets are installed between 450mm and 1200mm above floor level. For new installations, sockets need to be installed at least 450mm up from the floor level of a room. Adding new or replacing sockets in existing buildings must not make the building less satisfactory in relation to Part M than it was before.

As private rented properties fall under legislation to have 5-yearly electrical safety checks the landlord should be able to provide a copy of the latest report or arrange one.
