It is better to isolate the fusebox before removing and inserting the fuse, or at least make sure the connected items are switched off before replacing it. If this happens regularly it might be a good time to think about upgrading to a modern fusebox with RCD protection – a registered electrician can advise you on whether this is necessary and also look at the wiring.
