- Flair Solutions created ‘E:BAG’ which is a bag designed to contain and extinguish fires caused by lithium-ion batteries
- Much-coveted award rewards innovation in consumer safety
A product designed to contain and extinguish fires caused by lithium-ion batteries has won Electrical Safety First’s prestigious Safety Innovation Award for 2025, as battery fires continue to increase in parts of the country.
The award, sponsored by UL Standards & Engagement, celebrates ideas that help protect consumers from electrical dangers, recognising both launched products, prototypes still in development or safety initiatives like community projects.
This year’s winner, E:BAG by Flair Solutions, is designed to safely isolate and suppress battery fires in the hope of protecting homes, workplaces and communities.
The bag uses technology that integrates fire-resistant materials and nano-technology to suppress fire when 140 degrees Celsius is reached inside.
It was originally developed to protect and prevent against fires caused by electronic devices on airplanes but has since been adapted for use with e-bike and e-scooter batteries.
Judges praised the scalability of the entry which was constructed in various sizes to accommodate different types of gadgets including: 15 litres for smaller devices such as phones and e-cigarettes, 30 litres for tablets and 45 litres for larger items like e-bike batteries.
Terry Alberti, Business Director of Flair Solutions, said: “It’s a fantastic achievement to be recognised by a well-established organisation like Electrical Safety First. We set Flair up with the ambition to both prevent and protect people and assets from unsafe environments, like thermal runaway. This award shows us with products like E:BAG, we are making a difference and moving in the right direction.”
Luke Osborne, Technical Director of Electrical Safety First, said: “Fires caused by lithium-ion batteries are a serious challenge, which the charity continues to tackle through our research and campaigns. Technological innovations are one way in which the industry can contribute towards keeping consumers safe.”
The judging panel also praised Flair Solutions for the use of “carbon filtration and cooling technology, as well as the fact that the E:BAG can be re-used.”
As the award winner, Flair Solutions presented E:BAG at the 2025 Electrical Product Safety Conference on Thursday 16 October to an audience of more than 290 manufacturers, retailers, safety advocates, as well as government and enforcement bodies.
In addition to the award winner, the Highly Commended entry for 2025 went to Flosverse Techsphere for its electrical safety virtual reality app, which engages teenagers through immersive gameplay to raise awareness of electrical safety in the home.
