Our spokespeople

Giuseppe is an experienced electrical/mechanical engineer. He is part of a specialised technical team responsible for electrical product investigations to help protect consumers from unsafe electrical products.

Lesley has worked in the energy industry throughout her career. Starting originally with British Gas in Newcastle she moved to London and worked on both gas and power projects in the UK and abroad. She later joined the Sustainable Energy Association, where she spent around eight years campaigning on sustainability and Net Zero, before joining Electrical Safety First in 2020 – a place where she was able to combine her twin passions for safety and sustainability. 

Luke leads both the electrical product safety and the electrical installation safety teams, ensuring that products and installations are safe and fit-for-purpose.

Steven has over 25 years’ experience in the UK electrical industry. He works to improve home safety through practical guidance, policy work, and support for industry best practice. He is a member of JPEL/64, responsible for BS 7671, and chairs several UK electrical safety committees.

Karter joined Electrical Safety First as a Policy and Public Affairs Advisor in January 2022 after completing her Master’s degree in politics at Strathclyde University. She is based in Glasgow and works to develop government relations and policies across Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Since joining the charity, she has been involved in campaigns around product safety on online marketplaces, electrical safety checks in the private rented sector in Northern Ireland and expanding consumer awareness of electrical safety risks.

Sharni joined Electrical Safety First in September 2023, after completing her Master’s degree in Criminological Research at the University of Stirling.

Based in our Scotland office, Sharni works on a variety of research projects and also supports the management of the annual Electrical Safety Fund. Her current work includes investigating the electrical safety challenges faced by people living in alternative housing types, and leading a collaborative research project with Public Health Scotland, focusing on injuries caused by electrical products.

With more than 30 years in the electrical industry, Richard began his career in 1991 as an apprentice with a local contractor, gaining wide‑ranging experience across industrial, agricultural, commercial, domestic, hazardous and renewable sectors.

At Electrical Safety First, he helps develop Best Practice Guides and supports the progression of electrical safety standards. He also serves on JPEL sub‑committee panels B and D, contributing to the development of future standards, driven by a strong commitment to improving electrical safety across the industry.

David began his career in the electrical industry in 1999 as an apprentice with the Midlands Electricity Board, gaining experience across industrial, agricultural, commercial, domestic, hazardous and renewable settings.

After almost 20 years working on installations – including running his own business – he moved into further education, teaching adult learners and apprentices for six years. He joined Electrical Safety First as an Installation Safety Engineer in January 2023, where his role includes developing Best Practice Guides, chairing the Wiring Regulations Advisory Group, and representing ESF on JPELA/64 and JPELC/64 sub‑committees.
