Private landlords must legally have checks carried out on the installation in their rental properties every five years. You can comply with this by having a registered electrician carry out a periodic inspection on the property, after which they will issue you with an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR), which will identify any safety issues that need to be addressed.
The time that it takes to carry out the inspection will obviously differ depending on the size of the property, but you should allow a half day for it to be completed.
