There may be a number of electrical items that need to be left plugged in and switched on whilst you're on holiday such as lights (on a timer) and fridge/freezers.

Apart from these, you should turn off and unplug all unnecessary electrical appliances to save money and reduce the risk of a fire. For example TVs, computers, and routers in your living room, and kettles, toasters, and microwaves in your kitchen.

Although you may want to unplug your fridge/freezer, they are designed to be left switched off. As they defrost they leak water which is a potential fire hazard and your food may become unsafe to eat.
