Private landlords in England and Scotland must legally have checks carried out on the installation in their rental properties every five years. This will also be a legal requirement in Wales from July 2022.

You can comply with this by having a registered electrician carry out a periodic inspection on the property, after which they will issue you with an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR), which will identify any safety issues that need to be addressed.

The time that it takes to carry out the inspection will obviously differ depending on the size of the property, but you should allow a half day for it to be completed.

If you live in Wales or Northern Ireland, we recommend that you have these checks carried out, to ensure the safety of your property and your tenants.
