If you are living in a privately rented property in England or Scotland*, your landlord should have an inspection carried out on the electrical installation in the property every five years. This was introduced in June 2020 for new tenancies, and all existing tenancies must comply by 1st April 2021.

If you are buying a property that has had electrical work carried out that is notifiable under Part P of the building regulations (relating to electrical safety), the vendor should supply the relevant certificate to confirm that the work complies with Part P.

There is no register that lists electrical certificates that has been issued, the responsibility sits with the home owner.

* This will also be a legal requirement in Wales from July 2022.
