Consumer Unit Connections

25 April 2016

When the BSI/IET working group looking into the issue of consumer unit fires in household premises drew up the requirement for the use of consumer unit enclosures constructed of, or housed in, non-combustible material it was agreed that poor workmanship was the primary contributory factor to many such fires.

As such Electrical Safety First agreed to produce guidance for installers of consumer units to help them to ensure that the many and varied connections made within a consumer unit were effective and likely to remain so – at least until the next periodic inspection of the property.

Electrical Safety First would like to thank BEAMA for their invaluable assistance in the development of this guide.
