Commenting on the Government's announcement of its plans to review and strengthen the UK’s product safety laws, Electrical Safety First's Chief Executive Lesley Rudd said:
“This welcome news offers the Government a vital opportunity to finally put an end to the sale of substandard and often lethal electrical goods via online marketplaces.
The exponential growth of online shopping has left consumers at more risk than ever before of unknowingly purchasing dangerous products via these unregulated sites.
The UK has an opportunity to champion product safety by finally ensuring that online marketplaces have a legally binding duty of care towards consumers to ensure the safety of the items sold via their sites. We look forward to working closely with the Government on this issue and on the strengthening of product safety laws more generally.“
