- Prestigious award open to entries from individuals and organisations
- Previous winners include E:BAG, a bag designed to contain and extinguish fires caused by lithium-ion batteries
- Deadline for submission is Friday 28 August
Consumer safety charity Electrical Safety First is pleased to announce that entries are now open for its Safety Innovation Award 2026, celebrating pioneering ideas that help protect consumers from electrical hazards.
The annual award recognises innovative projects and products designed to improve electrical safety in homes and communities.
Entries are open to both individuals and organisations, and submissions can be at any stage of development.
The award is free to enter and offers a valuable platform for innovators to showcase their ideas to key industry audiences, including retailers, manufacturers, distributors, policymakers and the public.
Previous winners include:
- Flair Solutions ‘E:BAG’: a specialist bag designed to contain and extinguish fires caused by lithium-ion batteries.
- SafeBatt Project: which provides crucial contributions to lithium-ion battery safety.
- HobSensus: a safety device that turns kitchen hobs off when left unattended.
- Connected Innovations: sockets that detect heat build-up in the plugs and nearby wiring and turn the appliance off, stopping the fire risk before it starts.
- E-bulb: the world’s smallest fire extinguisher, designed to prevent fires from spreading and reigniting.
Terry Alberti, Business Director of Flair Solutions, commented on what it meant to win the award last year: “Being recognised by the industry experts for E:BAG and being awarded the Safety Innovation Award for 2025 was amazing. We were absolutely blown away.
“Since last year’s exposure, the engagement with industry and subject matter experts has been astronomical. We are seeing more acceptance of our technology and importantly more awareness of the issues relating to lithium-ion batteries and the damage they can cause.
“Winning the award gives us and our E:BAG credence and demonstrates that hard work and dedication can pay off. We would like to thank Electrical Safety First for all its hard work, exposure, and dedication it carries out every day to make our lives safer.”
Lesley Rudd, chief executive of Electrical Safety First, said: “Each year, we’re inspired by the creativity and innovation of those working to make electrical products and technologies safer. Whether you’re developing a brand new product, improving an existing idea or still at the prototype stage, the Safety Innovation Award is a fantastic opportunity to showcase your work to leading voices across the industry, whilst helping protect consumers from harm.”
The deadline for entries is Friday 28 August 2026.
The winner will be announced at Electrical Safety First’s annual Electrical Product Safety Conference on Thursday 26 November, where they will have the opportunity to present their innovation to a wide audience, spanning government bodies, influential industry figures and more.
Shortlisted finalists will also be showcased at the event.
